How to convert hourly pay to annual salary

Multiply your hourly rate by your hours per week, then by the number of weeks you work per year. The standard UK full-time week is 37.5 hours at 52 weeks, giving an annual figure of hourly rate x 37.5 x 52. For example, £15 per hour is £29,250 per year before tax.

If you take unpaid holiday or work a variable number of weeks, change the "weeks per year" field to your actual working weeks. Most permanent employees have paid holiday included in their rate, so 52 weeks is correct.

Frequently asked questions

Multiply your hourly rate by your hours per week, then by 52. So £14 per hour at 37.5 hours per week is £14 x 37.5 x 52 = £27,300 per year. Then use a salary calculator to find your take home pay after tax and National Insurance.

The National Living Wage for those aged 21 and over is £12.21 per hour from April 2025. At 37.5 hours per week, that is £23,809.50 per year — above the personal allowance of £12,570, so income tax and NI would apply. Enter £12.21 in the calculator above to see the full breakdown.

Most employed workers are paid during their holiday, so 52 weeks is correct. If you are self-employed or take unpaid leave, use the number of weeks you actually work — typically 46 to 48 weeks after allowing for bank holidays and annual leave.

The UK median hourly pay is around £17 to £18 per hour (roughly £33,000 to £35,000 per year). Rates vary hugely by sector and location — London rates are typically 20 to 30% higher than the national average. The national living wage floor is £12.21 per hour.
